Why are there two churches in the Parish of Wootton?
The reason is that when St Mark’s church was built, the village of Wootton was in the Parish of Arreton.

Are either of the churches open to the public?
St Edmund’s is open every day (approx. 9am – 4pm) thought the year for prayer and quiet contemplation.

Are children able to come to the Services?
Yes, children are welcome at all Services – there are children’s areas with a few toys and activities suitable for children from toddler to early teenage years in both Churches. In particular, our Sunday Brunch Service on the first Sunday of the month is very family friendly. Children are supported by trained adults who are DBS certificate holders.

What is the access like?
St Edmund’s Church is all on one level.  St Mark’s has an access ramp for use by those with reduced mobility and those who use wheelchairs.

What provision is made for people with disabilities?
Both Churches have Hearing Loops fitted. Most Service Sheets are printed in reasonably large print. In addition, Sunday Brunch and Morning Worship services make use of the big screen and AV system at St Mark’s. Handrails, ramps etc. have been fitted where practicable. Please contact the Churchwardens if you have specific requirements.

Are there toilet facilities?
Both churches have toilet facilities.

Is there parking available?
St Mark’s has a large car park to the rear, and on-road parking is also available.
St Edmund’s has on-road parking only.

Are visitors welcome?
All are welcome to our Services.
In addition, St Edmund’s is unlocked each day to allow visitors to enjoy this historic Church.

Can I take Communion?
At the Communion services, those who are confirmed and those who normally receive Communion in their own church (whatever denomination) are invited to receive the bread and wine.
All are welcome to come to the altar to receive a blessing.

Can I get married in Church?

Do you hold Confirmation Classes?
Yes, Confirmation Courses are held from time to time, depending upon demand.

What happens when a parish does not have a vicar or rector?
During a vacancy (interregnum) the churchwardens take responsibility for organising the services and finding priests to lead Communion services.  Other services can be led by commissioned lay worship leaders.  There are five lay worship leaders in our parish.

What is a plurality?
A plurality is where a number of parishes, which are close geographically, are combined to enable them to support each other, under the leadership of one vicar.  This enables them to support each other, combine skills and expertise as well as share resources.
